Everybody and their mum should watch Arcane (the series on Netflix), but especially if you like tragic love stories and/or found families and/or complicated relationships and/or fantastic worldbuilding.
It's the stunning visual that drew me in at first, as it probably does for everyone. Here is 3D animation so immaculately crafted, all its lines and motions and colours working in harmony in ways only ever matched previously by Into the Spider-Verse (2018). And then there's the worldbuilding, the set design, the shining art deco, the color-coordinated factions, how it boldly mesh fantasy lores together in ways, well, only video games have successfully done, really. But it's the strength of its characters that really makes it shine. The way lives are intertwined, the things they saw themselves to be forced to do, not because the plot demands, but so demanded by who they are. It's the other way around: the plot swerved and bent in the service of its characters, and it was beautiful. Every scene is so dense in characterization, not a single second is wasted.
Anyway, *slaps Arcane like it's a brand new car*, boy howdy, this can fit so many emotions in it. Truly the best of the best tragic love stories. Watch Arcane (2021). Thanks.
