Just like everything in Norse and and European mythology, the word is Free Real Estate for fantasy stories written in China and Japan. When localized back into English though, they're usually pronounced like how you'd expect an Anglophone would: Aegir, like ey-gear.
(a notable exception is Fire Emblem: Three Houses, with the character Ferdinand von Aegir proudly pronouncing "I AM FERDINAND VON AEGIR" with Aegir pronounced close to to the original way)
In Arknights, Ægir is an advanced underwater nation. Most nations in Arknights are based (loosely, not entirely) with real life nations. Yan is China, Kazimierz is Poland, Laterano is the Vatican. Ægir is so mysterious we know next to nothing about it other than that it's advanced, underwater, and has a liking for the arts.
ANYWAY because I can do it and we have tiny tiny crumbs to base it on (such as that one of the character related to Aegir has traits similar to Nyai Roro Kidul, Queen of the Southern Sea in Javanese folk stories) Im headcanoning that Aegir is based on/share traits/speak the languages of Indonesian/Malay/Malayo-Polynesian culture.
SO!! Aegirians has the same word for their nation and for the ocean that surrounds them, spelled the same way as the land-dwellers call their nation, but pronounced differently!
