Apropos the Unity fiasco, I'm surprised people switching to Unreal haven't talked about how much of a resource hog it is. Unity might be a bloated mess but at least it'll run ok on a decent mid-range laptop. Unreal Engine tho? Unreal is going to make your graphic card cry.

Like, the engine is free, sure, but this isn't a trivial investment. It was the biggest reason why the studio I work for was reluctant to make the switch early this year (we made it anyway, thank goodness, so we're not too affected by Unity's current braindead developments). I bought a new hi-spec computer partially because I use Unreal for work.

Maybe for people in developed countries this just isn't a concern? Maybe everybody have a hi-spec computer? (That's honestly the vibe I'm getting from western gamedev communities!) I'm curious.

Ah well, I'll be here with my silly little low-level engines that work on potatoes (hi, DragonRuby GTK!!). There's enough variety for everyone.
