I never did find a sense of "community" here but for the good part of this year and the last, Cohost has been a welcoming place for me to dump my thoughts and run. It is, in a sense, not very different from my existing blog on WordPress, but it's a also a lot better. For one thing, the editor isn't actively trying to kill me and my writings aren't interrupted by ads so bad I dread the idea of sending other people there.
But I guess the best part is because I've followed some really cool people here. Whenever I opened cohost dot com intending to just "dump my thoughts and run", I instead spent a while scrolling and reading some really cool thoughts from those really cool people. It's nice. Also, occasionally, people like my posts, and that's always nice, the knowledge that I'm not just writing to empty air.
Well, I guess I'm back to writing to empty air. I've set up a new self-hosted blog, blog.pseudomon.net, so at least I will finally be free of WordPress's enshittification. I've imported my WordPress posts there, but I'll start importing my cohost posts there too. It doesn't have RSS right now, but it will soon.
As usual, I'm still mostly active on birdsite @PseudoMonious. I have a lot of friends there, so my experience of the place isn't too terrible. My main homepage is still pseudomon.github.io (I'll see if I can just have it on pseudomon.net later). I have some less active sites too, you can always find them in the linktree page of my homepage.
I'm gonna miss this place. I'm gonna mourn it forever, I think. I hope the devs can find a stable place to land after all this. I'll carry the ideals it's going for, and I'm sure a lot of people here would to. I already see some new personal sites cropping up, at least one person started an e-mail newsletter instead of going back to social media. Even with the increasingly enshittified internet, I'm sure we'll find a way out of it.
