Shipping brainworms for What Makes the Sky Blue, of Granblue Fantasy. I have Thoughts, that might be incomprehensible to someone other than me.
The way Sandalphon loves Lucifer resembles how Belial loves Lucilius—okay, in a lot of ways, but the way I'm thinking of, in that they want the other to know that they (Lucifer, Lucilius) can have all their (Sandalphon, Belial) entire being to themselves, because it's from their hands that they were made. They want them (the creators) to see all of themselves, like, look! Look what you've made of me! All of me that is good, it's all from you, and I want you to see all the good that you can do.
I love to see What Makes the Sky Blue as about, specifically, the relationship between creator and creation. Isn't it a dream, to work so hard to create something (all creation is hard work), to see all the blemishes and then having to move on from it anyway (we chase after perfection but it's often unattainable), and then for your creation itself to look at you and say, I am enough, you are wonderful to have made me. It's like seeing your creation (your art, your writing, your feat of engineering) again and being proud of it, or being validated for their creation even if you can't stop seeing how much better it could be.
And from Sandalphon and Belial's perspective, in a spirits-in-objects sort of way, for something left behind to be looked at again, to be appreciated, you are the best thing I've made, I'm glad that I took the time to make you. Having your existence validated. To have your existence validate someone else's.
And Lucifer's relationship with Lucilius, unique in that Lucilius refuses to put Lucifer underneath him, Lucifer, the best way that you could love me back is by taking your fate in your own hands, I already know you are all the good that I can do. They don't need each other's validation, they take it as a bedrock of faith. And so Lucifer spread out his wings and became greater than Lucilius was, could be, as Lucilius wanted him to.
Putting these four round and round in my head ohhh I love them so much, I may never recover.
