I've started noticing that whenever my extended family asks me details about my day job (game programming, gamedev in general) I get upset and try to steer the conversation away.
For the record, my family is very supportive of my wacky underpaid career choice and they're generally restpectful about it, but they don't know anything about this industry. I guess I don't have the patience to educate people who are just asking to make small talk instead of out of genuine interest. Like, there's so many things to cover and misinformation to fight that the moment the topic is brought up I just immediately get a headache.
Please, don't ask me about gamedev or the game industry unless you can sit through me angrily going covering the whole thing while nursing a headache the entire way. It will not be pleasant. This is not something I can make some small talk out of.
Just talk to me about, idk, the fucking weather. I can small-talk about the climate crisis more reliably than I do the game industry
